Shell Tile: An Ingenious Innovation BY modern man.

Have you ever heard of the shell tile? Have you ever thought of placing these in your home? Shell tiles or Mother of Pearl tiles are extremely coveted tiles which are a direct result of man’s ingenuity and creativity. The sea shells are altered a bit to eliminate the inner lining and thereafter shaped in rectangular or square slabs to give birth to what the world now calls as shell tiles. 

These tiles can give your home a very rich and urbane look. Their visual elegance is second to none and the way they shine and shimmer, they can even give your diamond jewelry a run for its money. If you fawn after glossy and shining décor, then shell tile is perfect for you. On the other hand, if you prefer chaste and staid designs, then these tiles may not be the best recommendation for you, though you can always give it a try. 

Shell tiles can be placed in any area of the house, but it is strongly recommended that you do not place them in any corner which is prone to moisture or dampness. So, placing the shell tile on the bathroom floor is not a right idea unless your bathrooms remain completely dry. If you do wish to lift your bathrooms’ looks with these tiles, then you can place them in the upper decks of dry walls or as linings or borders of mirrors. 

From 1” to 4”, you can enjoy an excellent range with the Mother of Pearl tile. As for the designs, the choices hover over many forms including spiral, herringbone and checkerboard. 

Applying shell tile is a great way to highlight certain areas especially the cabinets and mirrors where they can be easily installed around the edges. Though these tiles are not the strongest of all tiles, they can serve you for years as long as you are careful with the maintenance.
